Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family go about their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
