Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
