Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs About Coach Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side just half a year following starting derogatory songs targeting their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has signed a deal with the Championship strugglers until January. Bamford's seven-year career with Leeds was ended through agreement this past summer.

Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead abusive songs about Wilder during the club’s promotion party in April. Currently, the one-cap England international will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.

Previous Conflict Between Bamford & the Manager

Both men had a past prior to Leeds won promotion to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.

Reconciliation & Looking Ahead

All appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant went viral this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.

“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke too and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and take it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”

Latest Career Struggles

Bamford made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with injury in recent years.
