Seamer Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Problems.

'Significant concern' for the English camp as Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the field early on day two of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

The touring camp stated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and required time away from the action in order to be assessed "during the day".

The series decider in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January starts at the end of the week.

The English side has been without fast bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets with the ball, then making 28 as a batsman being one of only three English batsmen to reach double figures.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, towards the conclusion of that over, he bowled a slower ball to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
